My dog has distemper.

2 comments

It was an ordinary day or so it seems.We were watching tv and dimples (our dog) is sitting with me on the sofa.She is feverish for a couple of days and hasnt been eating well.My dad dismissed it as a cold and thought that she will go back to normal but then we felt her jaw twitching .It was like an involuntary twitch that starts in her jaws and temple.She was also shaking so i asked my dad to take her to the vet.

A couple of hours passed and then they arrived with a sad news.Our dog has distemper.Based on my research,here is what i found out.

Overview
Canine distemper is a contagious, incurable, often fatal, multisystemic viral disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Distemper is caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV).

Incidence
Canine distemper occurs worldwide, and once was the leading cause of death in unvaccinated puppies. Widespread vaccination programs have dramatically reduced its incidence.

CDV occurs among domestic dogs and many other carnivores, including raccoons, skunks, and foxes. CDV is fairly common in wildlife. The development of a vaccine in the early 1960s led to a dramatic reduction in the number of infected domestic dogs. It tends to occur now only as sporadic outbreaks.

Young puppies between 3 and 6 months old are most susceptible to infection and disease and are more likely to die than infected adults. Nonimmunized older dogs are also highly susceptible to infection and disease. Nonimmunized dogs that have contact with other nonimmunized dogs or with wild carnivores have a greater risk of developing canine distemper.

Transmission
Infected dogs shed the virus through bodily secretions and excretions, especially respiratory secretions. The primary mode of transmission is airborne viral particles that dogs breathe in. Dogs in recovery may continue to shed the virus for several weeks after symptoms disappear, but they no longer shed the virus once they are fully recovered.

It is possible for humans to contract an asymptomatic (subclinical) CDV infection. Anyone who has been immunized against measles (a related virus) is protected against CDV as well.

Symptoms

Macrophages (cells that ingest foreign disease-carrying organisms, like viruses and bacteria) carry the inhaled virus to nearby lymph nodes where it begins replicating (reproducing). It spreads rapidly through the lymphatic tissue and infects all the lymphoid organs within 2 to 5 days. By days six to nine, the virus spreads to the blood (viremia). It then spreads to the surface epithelium (cell lining) of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, and central nervous systems, where it begins doing the damage that causes the symptoms.

Early symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, and mild eye inflammation that may only last a day or two. Symptoms become more serious and noticeable as the disease progresses.

The initial symptom is fever (103ºF to 106ºF), which usually peaks 3 to 6 days after infection. The fever often goes unnoticed and may peak again a few days later. Dogs may experience eye and nose discharge, depression, and loss of appetite (anorexia). After the fever, symptoms vary considerably, depending on the strain of the virus and the dog's immunity.

Many dogs experience gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms, such as:

* Conjunctivitis (discharge from the eye)
* Diarrhea
* Fever (usually present but unnoticed)
* Pneumonia (cough, labored breathing)
* Rhinitis (runny nose)
* Vomiting

These symptoms are often exacerbated by secondary bacterial infections. Dogs almost always develop encephalomyelitis (an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord), the symptoms of which are variable and progressive. Most dogs that die from distemper, die from neurological complications such as the following:

* Ataxia (muscle incoordination)
* Depression
* Hyperesthesia (increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as pain or touch)
* Myoclonus (muscle twitching or spasm), which can become disabling
* Paralysis
* Paresis (partial or incomplete paralysis)
* Progressive deterioration of mental abilities
* Progressive deterioration of motor skills
* Seizures that can affect any part of the body (One type of seizure that affects the head, and is unique to distemper, is sometimes referred to as a "chewing gum fit" because the dog appears to be chewing gum.)

Many dogs experience symptoms of the eye:

* Inflammation of the eye (either keratoconjunctivitis, inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva, or chorioretinitis, inflammation of the choroid and retina)
* Lesions on the retina (the innermost layer of the eye)
* Optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve which leads to blindness)

Two relatively minor conditions that often become chronic, even in dogs that recover are:

* Enamel hypoplasia (unenameled teeth that erode quickly in puppies whose permanent teeth haven't erupted yet - the virus kills all the cells that make teeth enamel)
* Hyperkeratosis (hardening of the foot pads and nose)

In utero infection of fetuses is rare, but can happen. This can lead to spontaneous abortion, persistent infection in newborn puppies, or the birth of normal looking puppies that rapidly develop symptoms and die within 4 to 6 weeks
.

MY dog is now under meds right now and im hoping that she makes it.She is the only dog that we have right now and we dont want to lose her.

Addicted To TP

No this isnt some drug that makes you high.This is an online forum that ive recently joined and boy right now i am definitely hooked. Yeah i know the dangers of speaking with strangers, of revealing something about yourself to somebody you barely know.But this site is different ....

I have been stressed and wanting to get away from reality for a little while. I want to be where someone doesnt really know much about me,much less of the recent issues that ive dealt with. So ive decided to join this forum to just let my usual 'kulit side' show up without somebody analyzing it if its written for somebody or if im attacking someone subtly.

So i signed up and found the site intriguing and different.Intriguing because it gives posters a goal and motivation to reach a certain amount of post so they can change the color of their nick and the title that comes along with it are wacky to say the least but absolutely cool.There are kick ass modes who do their jobs and they have a lot of contests and events that you can look forward to every month.

Different because posters come from different walks of life and they are there to share information.No predators looking to hook girls up or ask them for dates or whatever. No underlying issues or fights between members. All of them are very friendly,accommodating and each has something to contribute making it an ideal tambayan for somebody like me who wanted to just hang out and post.

I was so hooked on just posting that every two days my nick would change color signifying that my posts were also adding up from 1 post to 1,288 making me an elder in a span of 20 days.
My next goal is to reach 1337 post to be one of the elites plus to be a premier member next week.

Oh and im also aiming to be the Top Poster for this month so i better get back on posting. See yah guys and i hope to see you on the site as well.

Heres the link if you want to be a member

My New life

0 comments
It has been a decade ( or so i think) since i have been blogging and felt the urge to just write my heart away after being absent for so long. Let me just say that i am happy right now. Happy with my job, my life and with the one that i love right now.

I cant say that life is perfect because there are also some hang ups and some minor problems that i encounter once in a while but all in all everything is good. Good!!!! Hehehehe

Let me fill you in on some events that has happened in the span that i am not here.

Well i have resigned from my old stupid job.No more calls, no more supervisor saying that i have a monotone voice.No more KPI"s that i have to reach (which is impossible to do so anyway)and no more callers that will irritate the hell out of me.

I am currently working with no direct supervisor and can work at my own pace. We have a nice working environment(except for those noisy agents beside me) great people to work with and we can go on break and lunch whenever we want to. Paradise right.

Ive also broken up with my boyfriend for 5 1/2 years. The reason, im not really sure up until now. There are several factors or things that i considered that affected my decision. I think ive fallen out of love for him and have grown tired of explaining why i did things and did not think of his feelings.It may also be ive wanted a change. Or maybe that ive grown to love somebody else.

Eitherway i dont think of him as often as i did when ive just broken up with him.Sometimes i wondered if he has moved on already and is courting somebody else but that happens rarely since im preoccoupied with thought regarding work and my lovelife which brings me to this topic.Drum roll pls......

My new lovelife.

He was my coworker and was introduced to me by a common friend.He is intelligent, got a great sense of humor,well travelled and shared my interest with anime which i think got my attention. He also knows how to speak japanese and has been to japan as well.

I was impressed by all this and well to make the story short. We got together and we are now 1 yr and 4 months.

Before he and i resigned to our previous company, he arranged that we will be both admitted to the same company and to the same department so that we can be together. Well one out of two is bad. We are now on the same company but on diff. dept. We also have the same restday so if we have the urge to see each other then we can arrange a date and watch a movie :D

saturday adventure

1 comments
No we are not stranded on an island and doing another version of castaway . We are there on the meeting place a.k.a cr trying our best to evade the friendly approach (read between the lines we mean attack) of a non existing friend.

Now we know the meaning of the word "paranoid" ha ha ha ha the hard way.

Anyways , we have waited and waited for what seems like eternity until we have decided to go out and face our fears (mostly her fear) and what do you know, he is still there. Waiting patiently for us to leave our hideaway.

How ironic ....we are also waiting for him to leave.....us alone ha ha ha ha ha.

My outspoken friend decided to wait up for me in a desperate attempt to cut him lose. It was also her subtle way of telling him to "get out, scram, ur not my type"in a manner that is not offending. Unfortunately the signal was too subtle so it did not have any effect on him. He followed us , still waiting for my friend to leave the office with him.

Finally she had to say ...sige una ka na ,maya pa ko uwi eh .Finally he got the message and scrammed out of our sight like a pussycat not having his fsh when he was promised to be given one.

hay we could finally breath in peace.........

or should i say what a relief( to her)

Paranoid kasi eh lolz

hay what an adventure...........

A Creed to live by

Just want to share with you guys a poem that i have encountered . This is what i am reading whenever i am depressed or feel that i am ....anyways here it is .

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others
It is because that you are different that each of us is special
Don't set your goals too high by what other people feel important
Only you know what is best for you
Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart
Cling to them as you would to your life
For without them, life is meaningless
Don't let your life slip through our fingers
By living in the past or for the future
By living one day at a time
You live all the days of your life
Don't give up when you have something to give
Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying
Don't be afraid to encounter risk
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave
Don't shut love of your life
by saying it is imposssible to find
The quickest way to receive love is to give love
The quickest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly
And the best way to keep love is to give it wings
Don't dismiss your dreams , to be without dreams is to be without hope
To be without hope is to be without a purpose.
Don't run through life so fast that you forget,
not only what where you have been , but also where you are going .

Life is not a race but a journey to be savored every step of the way !!

the real me

0 comments
Funny how you assume a personality once they have said that it is you. I was called Krayzie here in the office because of the meaning that this word represent.

I am outrageous
I am insane
I am unpredictable

Or is that only a portion of the bigger chunk of me that is dying to get out (alter ego?) maybe ...

I have always wanted to go on a soul searching session on a mountain to get in touch with a part of me that i have left behind intentionally.Why ? just like what i have told someone eons ago . I forget so that i can live . I forget so that i can savor the happiness that i am experiencing right now. I forget so that i can be free of the chains that have kept me in the dark for so long . I forget so that i can love those i consider special and close to my heart . I forget so that i can be me once again. . . without the cloud of guilt and shame that has been haunting me for so long.

So here i am trying to live life as if i am all that and more . Trying to be the girl i once was .

Finally i am me again......

down the drain

I recently had a pleasant turned sour friendship with someone whom i thought is decent enough to handle things that are ....well...sensitive... turns out...he cannot....

I was really disappointed that someone that .....whats the term...intelligent...decent??? will cross the boundary and reduce what he is to ...something i did not really expect. I am not really angry nor do i feel hate towards that person. I just feel sad and disappointed because some of the friendship that he has can never be the same again. It was destroyed and the trust that came with such gift was lost as if it was not there.

All that remained is something called respect that is trying to cover up a feeling that cannot be revealed nor entertained unless you want something bigger to be destroyed.
